Mississippi small business health insurance regulations

Mississippi small business health insurance laws require Mississippi health insurance companies to sell any eligible small business that allpies a group health insurance policy. Also, the same small group health insurance policy sold to other small businesses must also be offered to any eligible Mississippi small business. To be eligible the small business must have at least 2 employees but not more than 50.

Mississippi health insurance companies, however, can mandate minimum participation requirements. Under this stipulation, a certain percentage of employees or members must purchase the offered health insurance policy or the entire health insurance policy for the small business will be rescinded.

A second stipulation is sometimes also added, requiring that an employer contribute a certain amount to employee's health insurance premiums before and insurance company will sell the entire group a Mississippi small business health insurance policy.

Although Mississippi health insurance companies are required to sell all small businesses health insurance if the above requirements are met, the price of Mississippi small business health insurance is not regulated. Premiums for Mississippi small business health insurance can be more due to the group's health status, gender, age and risk, but within limits.

However, as a protection for groups insured under small business health insurance, Mississippi health insurance regulations do not allow policies to be canceled because one or more of the insured individuals falls ill.

Self- employed Mississippi health insurance

The approach different states take to the issue of how to treat health insurance for the self-employed varies. In Mississippi, the self-employed are prohibited from purchasing a small group health insurance policy for yourself if they employ no one else. A self-employed person with employees between 2 and 50 is permitted to buy Mississippi small business health insurance.

Being a self-employed individual buying individual Mississippi health insurance can be costly. However, there is relief from this cost through an itemized tax deduction. A percentage of your annual Mississippi health insurance premiums can be deducted from taxes if you are self-employed and buying your own health insurance.
