New Mexico small business health insurance regulations

New Mexico health insurance companies must sell small business health insurance to any small business. Qualifying New Mexico small businesses must be offered the same health insurance sold to other New Mexico small business. To be eligible a small business must have employees totalling between 2 and 50.

Also, employees must meet a minimum level of participation in order to qualify for New Mexico small business health insurance. Depending upon the health insurance company, a percentage of employees must purchase the policy or the New Mexico small business health insurance policy will be terminated.

Furthermore, employers may be required to contribute a certain amount toward employee's premiums before the health insurance company agrees to sell the group a policy.

If both requirements are met, New Mexico health insurance companies must sell health insurance to any small business that applies.

On a different note, the cost of New Mexico small business health insurance is somewhat limited. The price of New Mexico small business health insurance can fluctuate due health status, age, gender, and other factors, but within reason.

Finally, as with individual health insurance policies, illness can not be used as grounds for terminating an New Mexico small business health insurance policy.

Self-employed New Mexico health insurance

Buying health insurance as a self-employed individual is treated differently by each state's health insurance laws. According to New Mexico health insurance laws, self-employed individual can not purchase group health insurance if there no other employees. With other employees, of course, New Mexico small business health insurance can be purchased.

However there is a big benefit to being a self employed business owner. A percentage of health insurance premiums can be deducted from your taxes if you are a self-employed individual and are buying your own health insurance. Depending upon the year, 70 to 90 percent of health insurance premiums can be deducted as an itemized deduction.
