Maine health insurance laws

Maine health insurance policies are required to include the following:

  • guaranteed renewability provision
  • exclusion period for pre-existing conditions of no more than 12 months.

Maine health insurance companies can:

  • not deny you health insurance on the basis of your health, age, and risk
  • not charge you higher premiums on the basis of your health and gender

Maine health insurance companies must:

  • not cancel an existing health insurance policy due to illness.

Maine health insurance companies must offer you the option of buying one of two state standardized health insurance policies.
