Missouri health insurance policy provisions

Some of the most important Missouri health insurance laws are the ones that influence the health insurance policy specifically. Some policy provisions are requires, while others are just controlled by Missouri health insurance laws.

For instance, it is lawful for a Missouri health insurance policy to contain a provision that permanently excludes coverage for conditions you had prior to the beginning of your policy, which are called pre-existing conditions.

This Missouri health insurance policy provision can have a maximum pre-existing condition exclusion period of 2 years. During this time your Missouri health insurance company is not responsible for covering the cost of any medical care related to the treatment of your pre-existing condition.

Also all Missouri health insurance policies must include a guaranteed renewability provision. This provision makes your right to renew your health insurance policy a gaurantee, instead of dependent upon your Missouri health insurance company.

Another important required provision concerns the health insurance for newborns and adopted children. Missouri health insurance laws state that for 31 days, newborns and adopted children are covered by their parent's Missouri insurance policy as long as the policy already provide coverage for dependents.

On a related note, dependents with handicaps are covered under their parents' individual Missouri health insurance policy even if they are older than the maximum age limit for coverage.

Regulating Missouri health insurance companies

Health insurance laws in some states strictly regulate the cost and availability of health insurance policies. Missouri health insurance laws are rather relaxed in this area, which means you just have to be more aware of what liberties your health insurance company are allowed.

For instance, Missouri health insurance companies are allowed to factor in your health status in deciding whether or not the they want to offer you a policy and what your health insurance policy will cost. Any Missouri health insurance company has the right to not offer you a health insurance policy.

However, once you purchase a Missouri health insurance policy it is always renewable. It is illegal for a Missouri insurance company to deny you continued coverage on the basis on health.

Since this is the case, it is highly recommended that you buy Missouri health insurance while you are young and healthy to ensure you get comprehensive low costing coverage.
